My blogging experience

Hi everyone! today I will talk about my experience in english 3.

About my experience in this course, I must say it was quite funny despite the time that was held on Thursday (17:40 to 19:20). The realization of the blog class to class many times was fun. Many things we talked about seemed fun, like the post of "music in your life" and "my book and favorite movie", in this last post I had a lot of fun remembering when I used to watch this movie with my family.

About my writing skills, I think they improved a little during the development of this course, however I think they could have improved more if I knew about grammar, since I completely forgot about it and I have not seen grammar for about 3 years.

In the future I would like to include grammar classes parallel to the realization of the blog, more listening and applications of these, for example some blog could have relation with a listening.

I would have liked to write about the country that I would like to travel, my favorite food and my pet.

This is my last post, I hope you have enjoyed this and the previous, goodbye! thanks for reading my post!

From the invisible to the visible world and back...

Hi everyone today I will tell you about a nano-drug called abraxane, which was approved in 2005 by the FDA.

The active ingredient of this drug are nanoparticles of albumin-bound paclitaxel of 130 nm in size, corresponding to an intravenous drug used in therapy of the following cancer:

-Advanced breast cancer in people who have already received other cancer drugs.
-Lung cancer.
-Advanced pancreatic cancer.

A natural source of Paclitaxel was discovered in Taxus bacatta, also called Himalaya yew. Yews are shrubs or trees up to 15 meters, depending on the weather and soil conditions.

The mechanism of action of Paclitaxel involves the cellular microtubules. Cellular microtubules are essential in the formation of the mitotic spindle, as well as for the maintenance of cellular scaffolds that the maintenance of the cell's shape and the transport of organelles therein.

Paclitaxel promotes the assembly of microtubules, and inhibits their decoupling. It can be said that they "freeze" the cellular structure.

These drugs facilitate the polymerization of tubulin, a protein subunit of the microtubules, stimulating the formation of a stable but nonfunctional mitotic spindle. Paclitaxel "freezes" the cells in the G2 and M phases of the cell cycle, leading to inhibition of mitosis.

The most enjoyable subject

Hi everyone today I will talk about the most enjoyable subject for me.

The subject that I choose to talk in this oportunity is Laboratory of organic chemistry. One of the reasons I chose chemistry and pharmacy was for the laboratories subjects, I always had the idea to study a scientific career and carry out experiments and activities in the laboratory, however, I would prefer not to have any related subjects with laboratories haha I still like, but I did not expect them to be so stressful.

In this subject, the majority of classes I have to synthesize organic compounds trough different techniques, after synthesize this compounds I have to determinate it's degree of purity, measuring melting point or using other suitable techniques

The classes of the laboratory subject are totally practical, since in addition to this subject I have another call organic chemistry, which explains the theoretical basis of the activities performed in the laboratory.

In this subject we mainly performed reactions and synthesis of organic compounds, approximately 40 people attending the class and 4 teachers and 2 helpers help us constantly to realize our activities in the lab.

Goodbye thanks for read my post!

Who is a person/expert on your field that you admire?

Hello everyone! In this post I will talk about a scientific character.

I will talk to Galen.

Galen was born in Pergamum, in 129. Galen, from a very young age, became interested in a wide variety of subjects, agriculture, architecture, astronomy, astrology, philosophy, until the moment he concentrated on medicine.

Thus, at the age of twenty Galen became Therapeutes (disciple or partner) of the god Asclepius in the Asclepius of Pergamum for four years, where he would begin his medical studies.

Galen would complete his studies in Alexandria, Egypt, the ancient capital of the Ptolemy and main cultural center of the Mediterranean. Galen would learn here the importance of anatomical and physiological studies for medicine.

Some contributions of galen were:

-He showed blood flowing through the arteries, not air (as Erasistratus and Herophilus thought).
-He described various infectious diseases, such as the plague of the years 165-170 and its spread.
-He gave great importance to the methods of preservation and preparation of drugs, which is the current basis of galenic pharmacy.

I decided to talk about Galen since he was a doctor who made great contributions to the area of pharmacy.
